Richmonders were invited to the Islamic Center of Virginia open house on Saturday, June 26. Members of all faiths met over delicious traditional dishes, hot dogs and hamburgers. Tours as well as a faith-based exhibit continued the dialogue throughout the afternoon.
During a meal, Bon Air Presbyterian Church member Gisela Stech of Midlothian spoke with Virginia Delegate Betsy Carr (69th district) about the center's participation in an interfaith trialogue with her church and the synagogue, the Congregation Or Ami. Three sessions were held at each place of worship this spring. The open discussions, lead by faith leaders, shared views about scripture as well as an opportunity for people from different faiths to connect. She encouraged more young people to attend the trialogue events. "We're all from the same roots of Abraham," Stech said.
Dr. Tarek Elganainy of Midlothian, who was in charge of the "best part- the food", described the many dishes available for guests to enjoy. The home made dishes were recipes from Morocco, Middle Eastern nations, Pakistan, India, China, and the United States. Hear more from Dr. Elganainy in this week's video.
