The popular softball exhibition team King of Diamonds, formerly the King and His Court, came to Chesterfield County, Sunday, Oct. 23 and played a benefit game for the Miracle League of Richmond.
The four-man team took on a local nine-person team at the L.C. Bird High School Sports Complex, including Todd Parney, Vice President and COO of the Richmond Flying Squirrels and Holly-Thomas Stargardt of Cosby High School.
The King and His Court include Mark McQueen, University of Richmond head baseball coach; Paul Keyes, VCU head baseball coach; Byron Ballard, former MLB player; Johnny Grubb, former MLB player and current varsity baseball coach at Meadowbrook High School; and Greg Burton, weekday host of Hardly Workin’ on ESPN 950.
The mission of the Miracle League of Richmond is to offer accessible recreational opportunities for children with special needs so that they can participate in team sports as members of an organized baseball league.
